Wine Textures
So for me when I hear the word wine I instantly think about the textures of the grapes, the cork, the barrels and the shape of the wine bottle itself. I want to replicate either one or all of the aesthetics into my logo and the branding aspect too.
Below are various textures that I'm looking at; at the moment.
I really like the texture of the grapes and the wine splashing into the glass.

Wine Logo's
Wine Logo's
Below are a variation of wine logos and company logo's (vineyards) I feel the important aspect of the app is making sure that the Logo reflects what the app does, so I need it to be fun, quirky, modern but not forgetting the meaning behind the app within the logo.

After a lot of research into the logo I need to bare in mind the branding aspect, one thing that I have noticed with all the logo's is that for one wine is elegant, and this reflects a lot in the logo, whether its the picture or the typography, the majority of the logo's reflect the brand's identity, visually that's key to all audiences.

What I want my App to do differently is reach out to a target audience ranging from 18 years and upwards, I feel that why can't everyone start to learn about wine from legal age of consumption. Don't you think that it would be amazing that you turn up to a date and you know exactly what to buy for a lunch or dinner date or even what to purchase just for the home.
What differs from my app is that you learn the about the characteristics of the wine, (the level guide) the pronunciations of the grapes (via a phonetic guide) it corresponds to Google + sign in database so that the guide can help you wherever you are and making sure that you correctly pronounce the word and lastly the opportunity to date others or share a casual drink based upon wine, so you can talk about wine and what not.
The extra dating option gives it the exclusive factor, it adds extra fun dimension to the app.
Furthermore once you feel you get to a good level of knowing your wines you get the option to download a bigger library to keep learning.

Firstly to understand how a Wine App would work, I downloaded various apps, to see how easy the navigation was, what type of information was offered, and if it would benefit me in anyway to understand the app and what target audience it was for; most importantly the meaning of the Wine App.
I found some rather interesting Apps which I will share with on my blog, but overall most Wine Apps are very similar. A lot of them were very detailed, you have to know your wine at a good basic level to really understand what you looking for, buying or even share with someone else your personal favorites.
Overall I feel there were only a minority what offered a target audience to learn wine at an amateur level, however they did miss certain key elements to understand the characteristics of the wine, the pronunciation of the grape, average price boundaries, most common wines and adding a functionality for the user to maybe add to there lists of common wines they already know to learn more sophisticated wines.
